Hey Forrest this is Andre’s wife,Lea.We met briefly earlier. I’ve been discussing this situation with Andre and I think it would be best for the boys to not play with the Ojai team. I hope you understand I have seen a lot of different coaching styles and parent issues in the last 15 years of “all”our kids playing soccer and with all of Andre’s experience in coaching. Of course you both can have different views of how to coach and I feel different prospectives are needed, but to tell a fellow coach that he cannot speak to a player almost as if you need to protect them does not play well for our boys being coached and playing on this team. So as you feel you need to protect Juan. I also feel the need to protect my kids. I only want them to have fun and learn something in a healthy atmosphere and this situation doesn’t seem fun or for that matter healthy. I hope you understand my feeling about this.

I feel like if we are going to do that, we need to do something equally big or larger for having three assists in a game, my concern is it we are highlighting the goal scoring and we have a player on our team that could very easily be scoring three goals per game if you were to have continued his selfish play, however that is not the case and because he's being unselfish other people are able to score, I would hate to put ID Place something that might incentivize him otherwise

Yeah, I was away from the thread for a bit and just read through. Now I can see both sides of the argument. We should acknowledge “man of the match” performances, but does that mean we get them a ball? (rhetorical) I know in the past when we’ve acknowledged that type of performance its been in the post game talk or huddle. Nothing more than a mention in front of the team. And that is the key word here, “team.” If we were to do a match ball as a ‘man of the match’ we are, to some extent, placing importance on the player over the team. And with a tangible incentive we could be encouraging more selfish play as has been mentioned and that runs counter to the idea of “team.” So while I do like the idea of rewarding the players, its probably best to acknowledge it briefly in the post game talk/huddle as we’ve done in the past and the team can give them a shout-out. We can and should highlight and acknowledge a particular players special performance but I would like to make sure we don’t lose focus on the “teams” success—after all it does take more than one player to be successful.
